Pedodontics, a Latin word, means “children’s teeth”. The branch of dentistry, pedodontics, deals with the protection and treatment of children’s milk and permanent teeth, starting from birth and extending to the age of 12-13, when all of the milk teeth have changed.
Who is a pedodontist?
Dentists who continue their education in the Department of Pedodontics after completing the Faculty of Dentistry are called “pedodontists”.
What do pedodontists do?
- They prevent children from developing fear of the dentist (dental phobia), and turn dental treatment into an enjoyable game for children.
- They determine the child’s caries risk group and organize personalized protective programs.
- Adult patients with severe fear.
- They regulate the child’s eating habits.
- They check the regular progress of the child’s jaw and teeth development.
- They perform preventive orthodontic treatments.
- They perform dental treatments for children who require special attention.
